Here are some of the things we go over at every practice:
FREESTYLE: Reach - Reaching forward with each arm, out into "clean" water is the key. Remember: you'll move faster in the water if you have long, strong strokes (not quick, short strokes)Work on getting fewer strokes each lap - make sure each stroke counts!
BACKSTROKE: Rotate - Rotating the shoulders is the key to getting full extension of each of your arms into the water - remember pinkies first!
And remember: "Press the T in Back and Free"
BUTTERFLY: Rhythm - Mastering the rhythm of "the pull to two kicks" is key for this stroke, while remembering the "wave-like" action of your entire body. Keep your legs together, as your arms move forward, thumbs first, head down as the arms move forward, kick, push down & out then back, hips forward and head up, kick, repeat.
BREASTSTROKE: Timing - Timing the arms and the legs is the key to mastering this stroke - remember the arm pull phrase - "Heart shape to your heart" Also, remember to underwater clap on hands and feet.
And for all strokes remember: "Streamline All The Time" (that means no Hula Dancing!) and "Longer boats are faster boats"
